Week 14 in the D. R.

 Aug. 25, Sunday
 
            We attended church at the Piantini Ward. Elder Dunford gave a powerful lesson on the Prophet Joseph Smith. We had Elder Anderson and Elder Zivic, of the Area Presidency attend our meeting. Three out of the last four weeks we have attended church with a general authority. We had the Haws over for dinner and then spent a quiet afternoon in our apartment.

 Aug. 26, Monday

             We worked in the office during the day. We had a request from the Bird’s in the West Indies Mission to help organize training for the senior couples in the West Indies. We put together some information and sent it to them. In the afternoon, we attended Spanish lessons, acted as investigators for two sister missionaries from the Phillipines, and then attended family home evening at the Leavitt’s apartment.

 Aug. 27, Tuesday

             We worked in the office during the day. We had our quarterly meeting with Elder Cornish of the Area Presidency. We had a good meeting with him and then we returned home and had a meeting with the storehouse supervisors, the Arias and Julio Acosta our boss, on how to enter bishop’s orders into the system and how to order food. The training went well.

 Aug 28, Wednesday

            We left the office early to pick up a wheel chair at the Temple. While we waited for the chair to arrive, we visited with several of the senior missionaries. We went home early and took a three mile walk to the Colonial Zone and returned home via the Malecon – (a walkway on the coast).

 Aug 29, Thursday

             We left at our usual time and took our car to have the oil changed. They said the engine filter and the air conditioning filters needed changing. The bill came to $91.00. We went into the office and then went to lunch with the Ruckers. After lunch we purchased some trays for the Bishop’s Storehouse, visited  Dr. Walker at the MTC about a humanitarian project for the park across the street from the temple. We returned home and I trained Sister Reyes on how to data enter the Bishop’s orders. The evening was busy with two wards bringing their youth over to help in the Storehouse. It was great to see the young men and women preforming service for others. We finished our day at 9 pm.

Aug. 30, Friday

            We worked in the office until 1:00 pm. Our boss, Julio was in Haiti so we left early to buy a few office supplies for the storehouse. After driving one hour in heavy traffic, we found the Office Depot and purchased several items for the Bishop’s Storehouse. We stopped and bought our groceries at the National Grocery Store and returned home. After dinner we watched King Arthur on Netflix. Since leaving home, I have had a desire to learn more about world history. So Joy and I have watched Cleopatra, King David and King Arthur on Netflix.

 Aug. 31, Saturday

             We got up at the regular time, 6 am and got ready to do a humanitarian project with the Haws. We followed the Haws to Monte Plata, a town one hour from Santo Domingo. The Stake President, the branch president and four other members went to Sister Ramona’s house to construct a chicken coup for her. The Haws had designed the coup for 12 chickens and had the wood all precut. We arrived at the house at 9 am and by 12 noon the coup was done. It was great to see the members pitch in and help build the coup. Joy and I took pictures and encouraged them. We returned home after the project and washed the car.
